5 things to do in the Scottish Borders this Easter

Are you still looking for your Easter get-away? With Easter falling late this year, doesn’t it feel like we’ve been on the work treadmill for far too long and everyone is in need of a Spring break?! There’s still time to book a special weekend away – we have the Easter weekend available with 10% off – now £2,050.

And today the sun’s out so Spring is definitely in our step! Daffodils and crocuses are lining the drive and beautifully dressing the orchard, the resident pheasant family are strutting their stuff round the gardens and the first lambs are settling into the nearby fields.

We’re busy putting the final touches to our holiday itineraries for guests so if you’re looking for things to do, here’s our suggestion for 5 things to do in the Scottish Borders this Easter!

 1. Bowhill House, Easter Sunday Fun Day, Sunday, 21st April. 11am - 4pm

Bowhill is always a cracking day out for all the family!  Enjoy Easter trails with a yummy chocolate egg at the end.  Come-and-try archery with Barons Folly Archers.  Face painting with the face genie and if the weather is bad enjoy a magician in the little theatre.

If you’d like to try something completely different, then scale the heights of bravery by tackling a towering climbing wall. Suitable for ages 4+, and only those who fit securely into the harness.

 2. Traquair House, Easter Eggstravaganza, Sunday 21st April. From 11am

The biggest egg hunt in the Borders, Traquair’s Easter Eggstravaganza is back once more for a fabulous day of egg hunting, egg painting and lots of other activities. With the largest hedged maze in Scotland, there could be no better place for an Easter Egg Hunt. Now in its 19th year, there will be 6,000 mini eggs to be found during a series of egg hunts throughout the day and they guarantee no child will leave empty handed. The Easter egg hunts are confined to the Under 10’s with an easter egg scramble for under 5’s in the Walled Garden.

But the event is not all about a mad rush for chocolate! There are lots of other fun, hands on activities for families including Scavenger Hunts with Big Egg prizes, Spot the Egg in the House Competition, Easter Bonnet making, musical instrument making, storytelling and face painting. There are also lots of opportunities to decorate your own egg and you can also join in with the communal decorating of the gigantic 6ft Egg which definitely is not one to be cracked!

3. Beirhope Alpaca’s Easter Alpaca trek and Egg Hunt, Friday 19th to Monday 22nd April. 12pm and 2.30pm

This is a fun twist on an egg hunt while trekking with one of Beirhope’s lovely and very friendly Alpacas. Your trek is followed by drinks, treats and a craft table to make your own Easter decoration. And everyone gets to take home a small gift and a Beirhope Chocolate surprise! There are some wonderful picnic spots dotted around Beirhope so take along your picnic too to make the most of the wonderful Borders countryside. Pre-booking is essential.

4. Abbotsford House, Easter Fun Day, Sunday 21st April. 11am to 3pm

Hop along to Abbotsford for their fun Easter Egg Trail in the magical Abbotsford woodlands. Then stop by Ochiltree’s Café, where they will be serving special Easter treats to titillate the taste buds.

5. Paxton House Easter Weekend, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st April. From 10am
